Active member of the JMU Panhellenic Council, assisted as both a disaffiliated Panhellenic Council member for sorority recruitment and as a Panhellenic facilitator for the National Panhellenic Conference: Something of Value in the fall 2014. Elected as the FSL assistant Greek Sing coordinator for 2013-2014 and promoted to GS coordinator for 2014-2015. Volunteered to spend my fall break in 2013 helping Almost Heaven: Habitat for Humanity build homes in Durbin, West Virginia.

Greek Sing Coordinator

Fraternity and Sorority Life  January 2014 - Present

 

Greek Sing is an annual event held by Fraternity and Sorority life in which organizations perform for the JMU community.

  • Organized Greek Sing for the 3,000+ students of the JMU Greek Community 

  • Conducted bi-weekly meetings with each organizations nominated delegates

  • Presented and upheld FSL standards policies and promoted sportsmanship and Greek unity through equal requirements and regulations 

  • Marketed and publicized the event through the JMU community with the use of flyers, posters and various social media outlets

  • Ensured the safety of participants and audience members with the help of JMU police offices and RMC event staff members 

  • Enforced and discouraged the consumption of alcohol by implementing FSL guidelines and consequences for organizations members

  • Raised over $12,000 to be donated to the local Harrisonburg Arc Association

 

Assistant Philanthropy Coordinator - PR/Marketing

Fraternity and Sorority Life  October 2014 - November 2014

 

Established in 2010, Miles for Medals is an annual fall philanthropic event for raising funds for Special Olympics Virginia, a year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

  • Designed and distributed event flyers throughout the JMU community and the Harrisonburg area 

  • Raised over $250 in local vendor gift certificates to be raffled off during the event 

  • Scheduled proceed nights in partnership with various restaurants and negotiated that 10% of each bill would be donated on their behalf

 

Summer Camp Director 
Middlesex Family YMCA  November 2005 - August 2013
 
  • Supervised camp counselors and ensured that all activities were conducted on schedule

  • Planned and implemented camp programs and activities for campers ages 5-13 years old

  • Constructed a comprehensive schedule of the day-to-day camp activities

  • Established a positive environment that promoted and enhanced the development of campers by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence

  • Created an environment that highlighted the achievements of campers by awarding prizes during a weekly recognition event

Home for the Holidays Service-Learning Project 

Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA  November 2014

 

As part of our semester long community service-learning project, we collaborated with the Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA to develop and implement their annual adoption showcase, Home for the Holidays. Our portfolio summarizes our efforts to fundraise and raise awareness for our final adoption event.

This paper describes the potential benefits and risks of communicating through social media outlets in long-distance romantic relationships. Continuing advances in technology raises the need to understand how social media plays a role in our personal relationships today. 

 

Political Ideology Analysis 

Political Theory and Ideology (POSC 321)  February 2014

 

In his book, Ideology: A Very Short Introduction, Michael Freeden aims to tackle the reasons behind the controversial term, ideology. He seeks to explain the core of ideology as both a political phenomenon and as the groundwork for political thought and action. In this essay, it is my intention to analyze the dynamic perceptions of ideology according to Freeden.

Christmas Friends Volunteer

Middlesex County Board of Social Services, Middlesex, Virginia  December 2012 - Present

 

Volunteered as a shopper for the annual gift-giving program, Christmas Friends. Shoppers are assigned a local family in need and are given a submitted Christmas "wish list" of clothing, toys, household items and other needs to purchase. Gifts are wrapped and then delivered to the families prior to Christmas Eve.

Swim Lesson Instructor 

Peninsula Metropolitan Middlesex Family YMCA  May 2011 - May 2013

 

Learn to Swim is a state grant program sponsored by the Middlesex Family YMCA that allows second grade students enrolled in Middlesex County Elementary School to attend two weeks of swimming lessons. I organized the 150+ students into three groups based on their initial assessment- beginner, intermediate, and advanced. In accordance with the required grant guidelines, I constructed daily lesson plans consisting of stroke techniques, water and sun safety, foundations of diving, and a game for the end of each lesson.

 

 

Philanthropy Committee Coordinator - PR/Marketing

Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority  January 2012 - March 2012 

 

Madison MADDness is an annual spring philanthropy event put on by the sisters of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is the nation’s largest non-profit working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking. As the PR/Marketing Chairwoman, I recruited members of the JMU Greek community to participate in the tournament, created game day brackets, supervised fundraising drives, and coordinated several proceeds nights. A gross net of $15,000 was raised throughout the entire week.
